CWPPO Morgan County Ohio

CWPPO (Civil War Preservation Project of Ohio)

Morgan County Ohio was my second location for my preservation project, working with Author David Mowery ("Morgan's Great Raid"). My goal here was to complete three missions in that county. One mission was to locate missing soldier "Tommy McGee" that was buried after he died on the farm of our dig site during the battle. There were 5 stories to where his body was laid to rest but no one knew for sure. Second, our mission was to locate both routes out of the valley after the Radiers crossed the river. Thirdly, our mission was to locate the Weaver Farm, which had a couple possibilities but lacked enough evidence to state where it stood. The first mission was a success, we were able to locate the final resting place of the buried soldier via GPR, see in the photos below of the ground scan. Secondly, we were able prove which routes these soldiers took by way of locating relics along their route. Including bullets, buttons, a stirrup, a horse bit, and several personal items as shown in the photos. Our third mission could not be completed as there were beans on the field of the possible weaver home site. Please watch for follow ups as we are still working with the museum on a close of this years dig.
